Course Duration: Full-Time: 2 – 5 years; Part-Time: 3 – 7 years
Inheriting the tradition of Sinology, the teaching and research fields of The Master of Arts in Chinese Studies cover ancient and modern Chinese language, literature, history, philosophy on one hand, and break through the model of traditional disciplines on the other hand, incorporating emerging disciplines such as Chinese Ethnics Studies, Malaysian Chinese literature, Chinese-Japanese-Korean literature, Southeast Asian culture, and Comparative between the East and the West.
Courses of Study
Students may opt for the programme on either a full-time or part-time basis. Students are required to complete 15 credits (equivalent to 3 courses), including 6 credits of core courses, and 9 credits of research-based Thesis.
- Research Methodology in Chinese Studies (3 credits)
- Directed Readings and Research (3 credits)
- Graduation Thesis* (9 credits)
*A candidate who is unable to complete his/her dissertation within the specified time can be issued “dissertation in progress” and can repeat the same subject until he/she successfully complete the dissertation.

Entry Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent; OR,
- A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR,
- A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in a relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.
- Others: Recognised equivalent qualification.
- English Competency Requirement for International Students: A minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS or its equivalent.
