“Find Your Vibe, Find Your Tribe – The Career Exploration Challenge!” at SMK Convent, Batu Pahat.

Ms. Jocelyn Lee and Ms. Peh Jia Yi, dedicated lecturers from the Department of Psychology and Counselling, Southern University College led an inspiring 2 hours career exploration workshop titled “Find Your Vibe, Find Your Tribe – The Career Exploration Challenge!” at the outdoor hall of SMK Convent Batu Pahat. The hall was filled with approximately 130 energetic Form 4 students participated in the workshop. Student Recruitment Officers also provides course brochure and scholarship information to the students.

The workshop designed to promote meaningful self-discovery, guided students in identifying their personal “vibe” — a deeper understanding of their personality traits, interests, and skills. Using the internationally recognised Holland RIASEC Theory (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional), students explored how their individual characteristics connect with potential career pathways.

After completing a brief self-assessment, students were grouped according to their RIASEC codes. This grouping allowed them to form their own “tribes,” where they engaged in discussions and shared reflections with peers who possess similar personalities. Through this interactive approach, students gained insights into themselves, strengthened peer connections, and understood how teamwork complements the career planning process.

“Career planning goes beyond recognising one’s strengths and abilities,” Ms. Jocelyn highlighted. “It also involves discovering a work environment that matches who we are — from job nature to the people we work with.” Ms. Peh added that understanding one’s tribe enables students to build confidence and clarity about their future career direction.

A key highlight of the workshop was the imaginative group challenge inspired by an adventure narrative to build a ship for voyage. Each “tribe” brought their personality strengths to life through their ship creations. The hall buzzed with excitement as students presented their ships, revealing not only their creativity but also how their personalities influence teamwork, problem-solving, and career aspirations. By the end of the session, participants walked away with a clearer sense of identity, increased confidence, and practical knowledge to guide their future career choices.

SMK Convent, Batu Pahat
