“University & Alumni Career Sharing Talk”

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Student Recruitment Office of Southern University College successfully participated in the “University & Alumni Career Sharing Talk” organized by the Counselling Department of Foon Yew High School Kulai on Monday, 10 November 2025.

The event was jointly conducted by Ms. Jocelyn Lee Ker Sin, Deputy Dean from Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences cum Program Coordinator of the Department of Psychology and Counselling; Ms. Chen Lee Wen, Head of the Department of Education; Ms. Lim Ying Xuan, Head of the Department of Languages; and Ms. Lah Wan Yee, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies. The session aimed to help students understand the program features, career prospects, and further study pathways offered by each department.

During the sharing session, Ms. Jocelyn introduced the program’s focus on mental health, counselling skills, and social adaptability. Through visual slides showcasing classroom and club activities, students gained a clearer understanding of the counselling field and its real-world applications.

The Department of Education highlighted the crucial role of preschool education in children’s development, elaborating on the course structure and teaching methods. A balloon interaction activity was designed, allowing students to experience the fun and creativity of early childhood education through the concept of “learning through play.”

The Department of Languages emphasized the importance of English proficiency and career development opportunities. Ms. Lim also presented an analysis of career demand across various sectors—including education, media, business, public service, creative industries, and academia—and shared examples of alumni career achievements.

The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism provided an engaging presentation that introduced students to professional training in journalism, broadcasting, advertising, and digital media. Ms. Lah shared students’ experiences in filming, interviewing, and co-curricular activities, allowing participants to experience the creativity and excitement of the media industry.

To conclude the session, the Student Recruitment Office presented information about the various scholarships and financial aid available at Southern University College. The talk successfully deepened students’ understanding of the university’s academic programs and offered valuable guidance for their future educational and career choices.

南方大学学院人文与社会科学学院与招生处顺利参与了宽柔中学至达城分校升学辅导处于2025年11月10日（星期一）举办的《大学&校友职涯分享讲座》。此活动由人文与社会学院副院长兼心理与辅导学系协调员：李可欣讲师、教育系曾丽文主任、语言系林颖璇主任及新闻与传播学系林婉仪高级讲师联合参与，旨在让学生了解各学系的课程特色、职业前景及升学规划。

在分享会上，李可欣副院长介绍了该系在心理健康、辅导技能及社会适应能力培养方面的课程设置，并通过投影展示了学生在课堂及社团活动中的活动照片，让独中学生对心理辅导领域有了更直观的认识。

幼教系则强调学前教育在儿童成长中的关键作用，详细讲解课程内容及教学方法。曾丽文主任设计了一个气球互动环节，邀请学生亲身参与，通过寓教于乐的方式体验幼儿教育的趣味与创造力。

英文系介绍了英语能力的重要性及职业发展方向。林颖璇主任指出在各领域的需求与就业方向分析，包括教育、传媒、商业、公共服务、创意产业与学术研究等。她也分享了前毕业生的就业发展情况。

大众传媒系通过生动的展示，让学生了解新闻、广播、广告及数字媒体等多元化领域的专业训练。林婉仪高级讲师分享了学生拍摄、采访及参与课外活动的经验，让独中生切身感受到传媒行业的创意与乐趣。

活动最后，招生处分享了各种南方大学学院给与的奖学金与贷学金。此次分享会不仅加深了独中学生对各学系的认识，也为他们未来升学选择提供了宝贵参考。
