The Faculty of Chinese Studies (FCS) of Southern University College successfully held the 9th “The Belt and Road Initiative: Maritime Silk Road” Malaysia–China International Academic Conference on 20 November 2025. As a tribute of the university’s 50th anniversary celebration, the conference, themed “Global Vision, Shared Southern Future,” invited scholars from Huaqiao University, China, as well as from Southern University College to engage in in-depth discussions and present unique insights on topics related to politics, economics, culture, education, and more concerning both countries.
The conference featured keynote speeches by Prof. Wang Qiubin, Dean of the School of International Relations at Huaqiao University, and Prof. Wong Yoon Wah, Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Studies at Southern University College. Their respective topics were “The Historical Logic and Practical Path of Jointly Building a Higher Level Strategic Community of Shared Destiny between China and Malaysia” and “Multicultural Research Strategies and Discourse Power Construction for the Maritime Silk Road Between Southern University College and Huaqiao University.”
Presenters for the various sessions included: From Huaqiao University — Dr. Zhong Darong, Dr. Hu Yueyun, Dr. Zhou Xingtai, Dr.
Liu Wenzheng, Dr. Wang Zhaoyuan, and Prof. Wang Yiping; From Southern University College — Thock Sheng Yi, Dr. Soh Chiun Siung, Dr. Ang Yee Ling, Lee Ker Sin, Dr. Tam Yong Huei, Dr. Tang Chew Peng, and Kho Tong Guan (listed in order of presentation); host of the session: Dr. Bak Jia How, Prof. Wang Yi Ping and Dr. Pang Nian Yin.
In addition to the academically enriching conference, another major highlight of the day was the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Southern University College and Huaqiao University. The MoU was signed on behalf of Southern University College by its President, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang, with the President and Vice President of the BODs, Vice President of the BOGs, three Vice Presidents of SUC, and several distinguished guests in attendance to witness the significant moment. Nearly ten years after their initial collaboration, the two universities have once again formalized their partnership, reaffirming their strong ties and laying a firmer foundation for future cooperation in areas such as friendly visits, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative academic research.
2025年第九届“一带一路海上丝绸之路”马中国际学术研讨会圆满落幕!
南方大学学院中华语言文化学院(FCS)于2025年11月20日成功举办了第九届“一带一路海上丝绸之路”马中国际学术研讨会。作为南方大学学院50周年校庆献礼,研讨会以“全球视域,共筑南方”为主题,邀请了来自中国华侨大学与本校多位学者,一同针对两国政治、经济、文化、教育等多个领域,提出深入的讨论与独特的创见。
大会邀请了中国华侨大学国际关系学院院长王秋彬教授与南方大学学院中华语言文化学院院长王润华教授,分别以“中马共建高水平战略性命运共同体:内涵、动力与路径”和“南方与华侨大学海上丝绸之路多元文化研究策略与话语权建构”为题,发表主题演讲。研讨会各场次的发表论文学者分别为:来自中国华侨大学的钟大荣博士、胡越云博士、周兴泰博士、刘文正博士、王赵远博士和王怡蘋教授;来自南方大学学院的祝圣怡、苏俊雄博士、洪一麟博士、李可欣、谭勇辉博士、陈秋平博士和许通元;各场次主持人:莫家浩博士、王怡蘋教授、彭念莹博士(排名按发表顺序)。
除了富有学术思考的研讨会外,南方大学学院与中国华侨大学再次签署合作备忘录的环节,亦是当日的一大亮点。本次签约仪式由南方大学学院校长蔡润煌教授代表大学签署,董事长、理事长、副董事长、三位副校长及多位贵宾也亲临见证了这珍贵的时刻。在合作了近10年后,两校再次签署新的合作协议,这不仅验证了两校友好的合作情谊,也为两校在未来在友好互访、师生交流、学术研究合方面打下了更坚实的合作关系。
