TCM Talk: “The Wisdom of Preventive Treatment and Modern Healthy Living”

The TCM Confucius Institute at Southern University College held a TCM talk titled “The Wisdom of Preventive Treatment and Modern Healthy Living” on Friday, November 28, 2025, in Classroom C3 of the TCM Building. The talk marked the first academic event organized by the TCM Confucius Institute at Southern University College. The keynote speaker was Professor Dr. Liu Yang, Dean of the TCM Confucius Institute at Southern University College.

Professor Liu used the example of Bian Que to explain the origins of the concept of “preventive treatment,” which began during the Warring States period and matured in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Huangdi Neijing records: “Superior physicians treat diseases before they arise; mediocre physicians treat diseases that are about to occur; inferior physicians treat diseases that have already developed.” This teaches us that early prevention before illness can effectively avoid disease onset. Professor Liu discussed the origins, philosophy, and clinical applications of “preventive treatment.”

She also shared her own medical cases during the talk, such as the “three medicines and three prescriptions” used during the pandemic, as well as other approaches and methods for preventive care before illness occurs.

This talk provided participating lecturers and students with a deeper understanding of “preventive treatment,” offering important guidance for applying this concept in clinical practice.

南方大学学院中医孔子学院于2025年11月28日（星期五）在中医楼C3课室举办一场题为《中医“治未病”智慧与现代健康生活》的中医讲座。此讲座为南方大学学院中医孔子学院的首场学术活动。主讲人为南方大学学院中医孔子学院院长刘洋教授。

刘教授以扁鹊为例子，讲述了当时“治未病”思想的起源，奠基于战国时代，成熟于明清时代。《黄帝内经》记载“上工治未病，中工治欲病，下工治已病”，让我们学习到病发前提早预防，能有效的避免病发。刘教授提到“治未病”的渊源、思维及临床应用例子。

刘教授也在讲座中分享了她的医案例子，比如疫情时期的三药三方，以及其他未病先防的调养思路与方法。

此讲座让参与的师生们对 “治未病” 有更深入的了解，为大家在临床上对于“治未病”思路与运用，提供了重要的指导。
