We are proud to announce that a team from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), Southern University College (SUC), has successfully stood out among 2,032 nationwide submissions in 2025, securing a place in the Top 56 and being featured on Episode 5 of INNOVATHON Season 3, where the SUC team showcased their innovation on the national stage.
Season 3 of INNOVATHON is a collaborative effort between Astro and Malaysian government agencies, including the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The program is widely recognized as one of Asia’s leading innovation reality shows. The show began airing on 6 December 2025, allowing viewers across the country to witness Malaysia’s growing innovation ecosystem.
The ObstaSense is a revolutionary intelligent assistive device designed to enhance the independence, safety, and mobility of individuals with visual impairment and the elderly. By integrating real-time environmental sensing and voice assistance, the project aims to improve quality of life and foster a more inclusive society through technology.
The auditions were held in Batu Pahat, Johor on 29 and 30 July 2025. Throughout the process, the team demonstrated outstanding innovation, technical capability, and teamwork, reflecting the spirit of future-ready changemakers. This project represents a meaningful collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in driving innovation.
The ObstaSense team consists of lecturers and students including Leong Kah Meng, Ng Khai Le, Ngeu Chee Hau @ Yeo Chee Hau, Chan Bun Seng, Kang Eng Siew, Wan Joe Yi, Chua Sze Ling, and Goh Yi Xuan. Their dedication and perseverance have not only brought pride to the faculty but also demonstrated how technology can be developed with compassion to benefit society.

The ObstaSense 是一项革命性的智能辅助创新装置，旨在提升视障人士与长者的独立性、安全性与行动能力。该设备结合实时环境感知与语音辅助技术，以科技温暖人心，致力于改善生活质量并推动更具包容性的社会发展。
