Local Film “You Are My Son” Inspires at Southern University College

Southern University College held a special screening and sharing session for the local Malaysian film You Are My Son on 2 December, organized by the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies together with the Library. The event concluded successfully with the attendance of director Jimz Lee and lead actor Gu Tianfa, who engaged in meaningful interaction with students and staff. Centered on themes of familial reconciliation and cultural identity, the film’s story of a musician returning home to mend relationships deeply resonated with the audience. During the interactive session, the director emphasized the importance of perseverance in both filmmaking and life, and shared plans to further promote local culture and explore comedy in future works. The creative team also offered practical filmmaking advice to students. Senior Lecturer Lah Wan Yee noted that the event enhanced students’ understanding of film production and boosted their confidence. The session ended with group photos, highlighting the warmth and value of local cinema.
