All programs are accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency. The curriculums are well-organized, top-notch, industry-driven and student-oriented. The aims of the courses are to equip students with substantial knowledge and analytical skills in the field Accounting and Finance. In addition, the Accounting program has received exemption accreditation from four professional bodies, namely, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW and MICPA.

Exemption Accreditation from Professional Bodies

The Bachelor in Accounting (Honours) or formerly known as Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) (MQA/FA2781) has attained the Quality Assurance Standards set by the Agency and is in compliance with the Malaysian Qualification Framework. It is designed to produce accounting professionals in a dynamic and challenging business environment. The curriculum is able to provide students with strong knowledge and skills in accounting and core business subjects. In addition, the programme has received exemption accreditation from four professional bodies, namely ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW and MICPA.

1. Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is the global body for professional accountants. Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) /Bachelor in Accounting (Honours) of Southern University College is an ACCA-accredited program since 2017 and is awarded a maximum exemption of 9 papers.

2. Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is the world’s largest professional body of management accountants, with the most useful accounting qualification for a career in business.

Bachelor in Accounting (Honours) has been awarded 2 of the 5 exemptions selected from 2015 CIMA Professional Qualification Syllabus Operational and Management Levels for five graduation cohorts.

3. Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) was formed in 1880 to ensure trust in business. The institute always ensures the members have the skills, knowledge and influence to help build economies that are sustainable, accountable and fair.

Credit has been awarded for some ACA papers in Bachelor in Accounting (Honours) of Southern University College since 2016.

4. Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA)

MICPA has been training developing professional accountants in Malaysia through its professional examinations since 1963. In 2009, MICPA entered into an agreement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA), sealing a new era of professional ties and providing for mutual advanced entry for graduates into both of the accountancy bodies’ professional examinations. 

Graduates of Bachelor in Accounting (Honours) at Southern UC are required to complete the Advanced Stage Examination (AST) which offers a balanced curriculum between technical & professional capabilities, as well as the introduction of future priorities for the accounting profession. It allows for greater specialisation through elective content, & the hours have been adjusted for personalised, and impactful learning. The  Bachelor in Accounting (Honours) programme is MICPA-accredited in May 2022. Southern UC graduates would be granted exemption from the Professional Stage Examination (PSE) which is up to 4 papers.
