The APEL Centre of Southern University College recently organized two workshops on 27 February 2026 for academic and administrative staff across the University. The workshops aimed to enhance staff understanding of the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (Credit Award) mechanism (APEL.C), with particular emphasis on its practices, procedures, and policy requirements, as well as to strengthen their comprehensive knowledge of the certification framework.
The sessions were delivered by Ms. Tai Jia Xin, Head of the APEL Centre, and Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Teo Pei Kian, Dean of Faculty of Art and Design. The workshops covered key aspects of APEL.C implementation, including application procedures, assessment mechanisms, policy compliance, and practical case sharing. The initiative received an encouraging response, with approximately 50 staff members participating actively.
Southern University College actively promotes lifelong learning and recognizes students’ prior informal and non-formal learning experiences. Its Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (Credit Award) (APEL.C) initiative has been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. Under this mechanism, enrolled students may apply for credit transfer based on relevant prior learning experiences, such as professional work experience and structured training, thereby reducing both the duration and cost of study. This initiative also serves as a strategic value proposition in student recruitment.

本次工作坊分别由先前学习认证中心主任戴伽芯，以及艺术与设计学院院长赵佩娟助理教授主讲，内容涵盖APEL.C申请程序、评估机制、政策规范及案例分享等。活动获得约50名教职员踊跃参与，现场交流热烈，反应积极。
南方大学学院一向积极推动终身学习理念，肯定与承认学生过往的非正式与非正规学习经验。该校所推行的先前学习认证（学分授予机制）（APEL.C）项目已获得高等教育部认证。在此机制下，在籍学生可凭相关的先前学习经验，如工作经历、专业培训或相关实践经验等，申请学分授予，从而缩短修业年限及节省学习费用，亦成为本校招生策略中的一项重要优势。
