Vice President (Academic) Brief Profile
Prof. ChM. Dr. Leong Loong Kong is an accomplished academic with over 20 years of experience in higher education and two years in the chemical industry. He currently serves as Vice President (Academic) and Professor at Southern University College, where he is dedicated to advancing education, research, and the practical application of chemical sciences.
Prof. Leong holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Petroleum Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Advanced Material (Catalysis) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, followed by postdoctoral research at COMBICAT, University of Malaya. His academic career began at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman as an Assistant Professor, later being promoted to Associate Professor and Head of Programme for Ph.D. and Master of Science programs, where he played a key role in curriculum development and academic quality enhancement.
His industry experience includes serving as Manager of Base Oil Operations, R&D at Excelube Marketing (M) Sdn. Bhd., bridging theoretical knowledge with practical applications. In administration, Prof. Leong has led program development, accreditation, quality assurance, and research collaborations, and contributed to the creation of policies for continual academic improvement.
A Member of Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM), he actively participates as an MQA Panel Assessor, workshop leader, syllabus developer, and peer reviewer. At Southern University College, Prof. Leong is committed to fostering an environment of academic excellence, global engagement, and innovation, preparing students to thrive in a dynamic and interconnected world.

Vice President (R&I) Brief Profile
Asst. Prof. Dr. Chua Yee Chii currently serves as the Vice President (Research & Innovation) at Southern University College, where she leads strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the university’s research ecosystem, fostering innovation, and promoting excellence in postgraduate education. She holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate in Psychology (Child and Family Psychology) from University Malaysia Sabah, all of which were supported by the prestigious MyBrain15 Postgraduate Scholarship.
Dr. Chua brings over 15 years of experience in academia, research, and leadership, spanning teaching, curriculum development, and research management. She began her academic journey as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Psychology and Education, University Malaysia Sabah, and has since held various academic and administrative roles including Lecturer, Tutor, and Practicum Supervisor.
From 2019 to 2022, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Education & Psychology and concurrently as Acting Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research (IGSR). In these roles, she played a key role in steering undergraduate and postgraduate program accreditations and aligning faculty initiatives with institutional research and academic quality goals.
Since assuming the role of Dean of IGSR in 2024, Dr. Chua has led efforts to enhance research integrity, academic excellence, and interdisciplinary innovation. Her leadership focuses on strengthening postgraduate programs, supporting research activities, ensuring compliance with national research assessment frameworks (notably MyRA), and expanding international research collaborations.
Alongside her administrative duties, Dr. Chua remains an active researcher and academic supervisor. Her areas of expertise include child and family psychology, developmental psychology, and social psychology. As Vice President (R&I), she is committed to cultivating a dynamic research culture grounded in ethical practices, innovation, and scholarly impact across the university.
