Report on Piknik Membaca Collaborative Reading Initiative

Piknik Membaca, a collaborative reading initiative jointly organised by Southern University College (SUC), the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Johor Public Library Corporation (Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor, PPAJ), was successfully held and attracted a total of 250 participants on 30 December 2025. The event was designed not only to encourage SUC students to rediscover the joy of reading, but also to inspire students nationwide to cultivate deeper reading habits that go beyond surface-level consumption of information.

The President of Southern University College, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang, highlighted that Piknik Membaca aimed to nurture critical thinking, reflection, and meaningful engagement with texts. Prof. Chuah also expressed his appreciation for the strong support received from PPAJ and conveyed his hope for more collaborative initiatives with PPAJ and Siji Art Management in the future. Such collaborations, he emphasised, are vital for nurturing students’ communication and organisational skills, which are increasingly essential in the age of Artificial Intelligence. He further thanked Asst. Prof. Dr. Bambang Suhartono Bin Mohd Said and Ms Lah Wan Yee for their initiative and dedication in enhancing students’ competencies through the organisation of Piknik Membaca.

The event was graced by the presence of Datin Teh Hwee Tiang, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, SUC; Puan Ungku Hajah Noorakmal Ungku Sulaiman from PPAJ; and Cut Nailil Muna from Siji Art Management, Jakarta. In her remarks, Puan Ungku expressed her hope that Piknik Membaca could be expanded to the wider community, positioning books as an integral part of family recreational activities. The programme followed by a patriotic song appreciation session, featuring spirited performances by 14 groups of students, and concluded with Aspirasi AI dalam Industri Kreatif (AAIDIK) features the screening of the short film “AI Between Us”, produced by PPAJ in collaboration with SUC, adding a meaningful cultural dimension to the event.

由南方大学学院人文与社会科学学院，以及柔佛州公共图书馆机构（PPAJ）联合主办的“野读时光”协作阅读活动，于2025年12月30日圆满举行，共吸引约250名参与者。该活动不仅旨在鼓励南方大学学院的学生重新发现阅读的乐趣，也希望激发全国学生培养更深入的阅读习惯。

南方大学学院校长蔡润煌教授指出，“野读时光”旨在培育学生的批判性思维、反思能力，以及与文本进行有意义互动的素养。他同时感谢PPAJ给予的大力支持，并表达了未来与PPAJ及印尼艺术管理机构展开更多合作项目的期望。蔡校长强调，这类跨机构合作对于培养学生的沟通能力与组织能力至关重要，而这些能力在人工智能时代显得尤为重要。他亦特别感谢 Asst. Prof. Dr. Bambang Suhartono Bin Mohd Said 及林婉仪高级讲师的积极倡议与辛勤付出，通过筹办活动有效提升了学生的综合能力。

活动当天嘉宾云集，包括南方大学学院董事会副主席拿汀郑惠珍、来自PPAJ的恩姑哈嘉诺阿克玛女士，以及来自印尼艺术管理机构的卡特奈丽慕娜女士。恩姑哈嘉诺阿克玛女士在致辞中表示，希望“野读时光”未来能推广至更广泛的社区层面，将阅读塑造成家庭休闲活动的重要组成部分。活动随后进行爱国歌曲欣赏环节，由14组学生呈献精彩表演，并以“创意产业中的人工智能愿景”作为压轴，放映由PPAJ与南方大学学院联合制作的短片《AI Between Us》，为活动增添了深具意义的文化内涵。
