The Master in English Language Studies programme is designed to deepen students’ expertise in the English language through advanced study of linguistic theories, critical and analytical skills, and sociocultural perspectives.
The programme aims to develop graduates who are equipped with critical thinking and innovative perspectives necessary to navigate and contribute to the evolving landscape of English language studies, whether in education, research, media, or professional communication.

Entry Requirement
- A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6 Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, as accepted by the HEP’s Senate; OR
- A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) or its equivalent, not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of five (5) years working experience in a relevant field.
English Requirement for International Students:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Band 6.0 or The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) Mid B2 or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT 60 or its equivalent; OR
- Exemption will be granted to students whose first language is English or the medium of instruction during their Bachelor’s/Master’s studies is fully in English; OR
- Students who do not have the minimum requirement as stated above are required to attend ‘Preparatory Intensive English’ conducted by Southern University College, and they should achieve a score of MUET Band 4 or its equivalent before graduation.
