One of the key avenues for this is the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).

Through APEL, we honor the knowledge and skills you’ve gained from work, life experiences, and other informal learning opportunities. Our goal is to provide you with the chance to earn academic recognition for the expertise you’ve already acquired, helping you achieve your educational and professional aspirations.

What is APEL C ?

APEL C refers to the recognition of prior experiential learning for individuals who have acquired knowledge and skills through work experience, non-formal education, volunteering, and other life experiences outside of formal academic settings. With APEL C, you can receive academic credits towards a degree or qualification at Southern University College based on your prior learning.This can also be used to obtain credit transfer for course(s) in the program.

This pathway is designed for individuals who:

Have significant work or life experiences related to their chosen field of study.
Have acquired valuable skills and knowledge through informal or non-formal learning.
Want to pursue higher education but may not have the traditional academic qualifications.

Application Process

Apel Center

Start by visiting the Southern UC APEL Centre for information about the APEL.C process. It’s recommended to set an appointment for a counseling session to better understand the requirements and policies.

Step 01

Pre-Application

Submit the required forms and pay the pre-application fee. Then, meet your advisor to do a self-assessment and write a short 500-word report. The advisor will help check if you’re eligible

Step 02

Submit Application

If you're eligible, you’ll get an email. Then, submit your Application Form within one week and pay the application fee. The APEL Centre will send your form to the faculty.

Step 03

Take the Assessment

Your faculty will schedule your assessment and tell you when and where to take it. Prepare your tasks or portfolio to show what you’ve learned from your experience.

Step 04

Result

If you pass, you’ll earn credits, and they will appear on your transcript. If you fail, you cannot try the same course again through another APEL method. You’ll have to take the course normally.

Step 05

Appeal (If Needed)

If you fail and want to appeal, fill in the Appeal Form and pay the fee within one week. The APEL Centre will review it and inform you of the final decision.

Step 06

Who Is Qualified?

Learners who registered active students in Southern UC

Learners who registered for all postgraduate (by Coursework / Mixed Mode) and undergraduate programmes in Southern UC.

No age and nationality limit.
