TOUR1003 Introduction to Travel and Tourism

On 25 November 2025, Tourism Management students from the TOUR1003 Introduction to Travel and Tourism course embarked on a heritage trail field trip to Johor Bahru City Centre. Led by a senior lecturer, the visit aimed to provide hands-on exposure to Johor’s rich historical, cultural, and transportation heritage. The trip focused on promoting experiential learning, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for multicultural harmony.
The group explored four key locations: Arulmigu Rajamariamman Temple, showcasing South Indian architecture and Hindu traditions; Kwong Siew Heritage Gallery, highlighting the Cantonese community’s contributions; and Galeri Sejarah Johor, which traces Johor’s journey from the Sultanate era to modern times. The final stop was JB Sentral, a major transportation hub connecting Malaysia and Singapore, where students observed immigration processes and transport operations.
Through guided tours, discussions, and documentation activities, students gained valuable insights into Johor’s cultural diversity, historical evolution, and urban infrastructure. Despite minor challenges like time constraints and crowd control, the trip successfully achieved its objectives, strengthening students’ respect for heritage, unity, and national identity.
