The Talk “Your English Isn’t Broken: It’s a Work in Progress”

The Department of Languages successfully hosted the talk “Your English Isn’t Broken: It’s a Work in Progress” as part of the 2025 FHSS Educational Insight & Networking Event. The session featured Professor Chun-Yin Doris Chen, a Distinguished Professor from the Department of English at National Taiwan Normal University. Speaking live from Taiwan, Professor Chen delivered an insightful presentation aimed at shifting the perspective of non-native English speakers, from viewing their language proficiency as a deficit to embracing it as a continuous journey of growth.
Datin Ang Chin Fang, SUC’s Executive Director and Executive Governor, also joined the talk and shared her perspectives with the audience. Several lecturers from the Department of Languages, engaged with Professor Chen on key topics. This collaborative Q&A session transformed the talk into a meaningful academic exchange, reinforcing the faculty’s commitment to continuous professional development and to fostering networks with leading international scholars.
