Research Achievement|SUC Scholar Contributes to Major International Textual Project

Dr. Ang Yee Ling, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Chinese Studies, Southern University College, has participated in the compilation of the Compilation of Records of Travels to China during the Goryeo and Joseon Periods (Series I), a major scholarly project edited by the Research Institute for Foreign Literature of China at Nanjing University and coordinated by Nanjing University. Bringing together contributions from scholars across different countries, the series systematically collects and edits travel accounts written by Goryeo and Joseon envoys and literati to China, and serves as an important body of primary sources for the study of East Asian cultural exchanges.
In Volume 5 of Series I, Dr. Ang was responsible for the punctuated edition and introductory study (jieti) of Chaotian lu (also known as Choch’ŏnnok; Record of Visiting the Celestial Court) by Zhao Ji (Cho Chip). Through careful collation, textual correction, and contextual annotation, this work helps clarify aspects of historical interaction between China and Korea, as well as the institutional and textual traditions surrounding diplomatic travel writing. It also provides a reliable reference text for further research in the field.
This work was supported by the Academy of Korean Studies (Korean Studies Promotion Service) Grant funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea (Ministry of Education) (AKS-2013-OLU-2250003), as well as by China’s “Double First-Class” initiative (Nanjing University, Chinese Language and Literature), the Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center for “Chinese Literature and East Asian Civilization,” and the Nanjing University Liberal Arts Excellent Research Programme. The project reflects the significance of cross-border collaboration in the study and preservation of East Asian textual heritage.
Notably, Dr. Ang is the only participating scholar from Malaysia in Series I, highlighting Southern University College’s active engagement and growing presence in the field of overseas Chinese texts and East Asian studies.
