Organized by the Museum and Art Gallery of Southern University College, the exhibition “Leading the Charge” (艺马当先), featuring more than 60 ink paintings of horses by renowned artist Kerk Won Hoo, was officially launched on February 6, ushering in the Chinese New Year of the Horse. The opening ceremony was officiated by Dato’ Vincent Tan Meng Seng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Southern University College and was warmly attended by art enthusiasts from both within and beyond the campus.
Prior to the opening ceremony, six of Kerk Won Hoo’s students who had traveled from Kuala Lumpur spent three hours on-site creating a long scroll titled “Hundred Horses Greeting the Rising Sun” (百马朝阳), adding a vibrant festive touch to the campus.
The opening ceremony also featured interactive programs such as a Creative Spring Couplets Experience and a Calligraphy Writing Experience. Kerk’s son, Kerk Yifan, was present to write festive calligraphy and paint horses for visitors, conveying New Year blessings. The lively atmosphere evoked the magnificent spectacle of ten thousand galloping horses.
The “Leading the Charge” exhibition will run until February 26 and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The gallery will be closed for the Chinese New Year holidays from February 16 to 20. Outside of this holiday period, visits are welcome during office hours, Monday through Friday.
