Department of Psychology and Counselling : Emotion Regulation Seminar

Department of Psychology and Counselling from Southern University College organized the Emotion Regulation Seminar held at Auditorium 4A on 31st October 2025. The seminar was part of the 2025 Educational Insight & Networking Event, themed “Transforming Education, Media, Language, and Mental Well-Being for a Sustainable Future’’. A licenced and registered counsellor, Ms. Neo Lay Geat was invited to share knowledge and tips in understanding different types of emotions, create awareness and emotion regulations.
Understanding our emotions begins with recognizing what we feel and why we feel it. Emotions are not random; they arise from our interpretations, needs, and experiences. By learning the differences between feelings such as frustration, disappointment, anxiety, and sadness, we gain a clearer picture of our internal world. This awareness allows us to identify triggers, understand our body’s signals, and build a richer emotional vocabulary. When we can name our emotions accurately, we reduce confusion, improve communication, and create space to respond rather than react.
Building emotional awareness is the foundation of healthy emotion regulation. Once we can identify what we are feeling, we can choose strategies that help us manage those emotions effectively. Simple practices—such as pausing to breathe, grounding ourselves through our senses, reframing our thoughts, or seeking support—can lower emotional intensity and help us regain balance. Emotion regulation is not about suppressing feelings but learning how to navigate them with clarity and intention. With consistent practice, we can cultivate healthier coping habits, strengthen relationships, and enhance our overall well-being.

心理与辅导谘商系-情绪调节专题讲座
南方大学学院心理与辅导谘商系于2025年10月31日在4A讲堂举办了“情绪调节专题讲座”。此讲座是2025 教育洞察与协同发展盛会“教育、媒体、语言与心理健康的转型,迈向可持续未来” 的一部分。主办方特邀持牌与注册辅导员梁丽珍女士莅临,为学生们分享如何理解不同类型的情绪、提升情绪觉察力,以及学习情绪调节的小技巧。
理解情绪的第一步,是辨识自己正在感受什么,以及为何会有这样的感受。情绪并非毫无根据,它源自我们对情境的诠释、内在需求与过往经验。透过学习区分挫折、失望、焦虑、悲伤等不同情绪,我们能更清晰认识自己的内在世界。这种觉察有助于我们找出触发点、理解身体发出的讯号,并丰富我们的情绪词汇。当我们能精准地说出自己正在感受的情绪时,便能减少误解、提升沟通质量,并让自己有空间做出更成熟的回应,而非冲动反应。
建立情绪觉察力是健康情绪调节的基础。当我们能辨识情绪来源时,便能选择合适的策略来调适情绪。像是暂停深呼吸、透过五感进行安顿练习、调整想法框架,或向他人寻求支持等,都能有效降低情绪强度,让心境逐渐恢复平衡。情绪调节并非压抑或否认感受,而是学习以清晰和有意识的方式去面对它们。透过持续练习,我们不仅能培养更健康的应对习惯,也能深化人际关系,并提升整体身心健康。
