To promote a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the 6th TCM Learning Camp, organized by the Faculty of Chinese Medicine at Southern University College, was successfully held from June 27 to June 29, 2025, at Southern University College. The camp attracted many young enthusiasts of TCM, embarking together on a journey that integrated tradition and modernity, knowledge and hands-on experience.
The theme “Danggui” symbolizes “Tracing back to the origin, nurturing life through TCM.” Through accessible lectures, immersive hands-on activities, and engaging team interactions, participants experienced the profound value of TCM from theory to practice.
Dr. Soh Chiun Siung conducted two lectures on wellness acupuncture points and the four diagnostic methods in TCM. These sessions deepened participants’ understanding and interest in TCM. With interactive and fun teaching methods, beginners were introduced to unique diagnostic techniques like pulse reading. The use of relatable life examples helped demystify TCM knowledge and enhance its practical relevance.
A field trip to ZenXin Organic Farm allowed participants to observe and harvest medicinal herbs. Under the guidance of the speaker, they experienced the taste and properties of various herbs. Participants also created personalized herbal sachets by blending fragrant herbs for moisture removal and wellness — a hands-on activity they could carry with them.
The camp featured a TCM-themed escape room game that integrated medical knowledge. Focusing on a fictional pneumonic plague case, participants took on roles that encouraged critical thinking and simulated TCM diagnostic approaches. Through engaging with the four key diagnostic principles — theory, method, formula, and medicine — they discovered the uniqueness of TCM reasoning. A treasure hunt and a water battle game further boosted team spirit and bonding between participants and the organizing committee.
In addition to regular meals, the camp included a special herbal hotpot dinner, breaking the stereotype that herbal soups are always bitter, instead offering delicious flavors. The medicinal dessert session allowed participants to explore the practical concept of “TCM food therapy.”
This camp not only enriched the participants’ understanding of TCM knowledge but also nurtured friendships, personal growth, and self-discovery during the three days and two nights spent together. TCM is not only a discipline but a way of life. We hope every participant finds their own “returning place” in life through this unique journey.
