【Announcement】126th Southern Salon Humanities Academic Lecture: “Fieldwork in Action—Cultural and Historical Field Research”

Lecture Overview:

Field research is one of the essential methods in academic studies, and its implementation varies depending on the researcher’s background, environmental conditions, and research subjects. Ethnographic and historical field research is not only a research tool but also a crucial means of preserving folk memory and cultural heritage. By engaging directly with the field, researchers can obtain firsthand materials that supplement existing historical records, ensuring the authenticity of historical narratives. This process helps prevent future generations from being influenced by incomplete or manipulated historical accounts due to gaps in documentation.

Speaker:

Lee Eng Kew (Local historian and writer)

Lee Yong Kew is a well-known local historian and writer, a columnist for Sin Chew E-newspaper, a Taiping historical and heritage guide, and a traditional yueqin (moon lute) musician. He has authored several publications, including “The Man-Eating Crocodile: Folktales from Old Taiping”, “The Soul Returns to Heaven”, and “The Ninth Day of the First Lunar Month: The Birthday of the Jade Emperor”.

【预告】第126场南方沙龙人文学术讲座：《田野行脚：文化历史的田野调查》

讲座简介：

田野调查是学术研究的重要方法之一，而其具体实施方式则因研究者的背景、环境条件及研究对象的不同而有所调整。文化历史的田野调查不仅是研究工具，更是抢救民间记忆与文化资产的重要手段。通过深入田野，研究者可获取第一手资料，以弥补既有史料的不足，同时确保历史叙述的真实性，避免后人因史料缺失而受到片面或被操控的历史叙事影响。

主讲人：李永球（马来西亚文史工作者）

1965年出生于马来西亚霹雳州太平市，祖籍福建永泰县。太平华联国民型中学初中三毕业，毕业后协助父亲小贩事业，一面致力于马来西亚华人民间历史、民俗和文化的田野调查和研究，以李桃李、峇峇球等笔名发表文章于报章杂志。2004年成为全职文史工作者，多次参与国内外的学术论文发表会。出版了数本著作，曾担任《峇峇球》、《海盗与王船》纪录片，ASTRO AEC 13集系列纪录片《谁的传统》主持人。目前是《星洲人》电子报专栏作者、文史工作者、太平文史古蹟导览员、月琴弹唱人，并出版多部著作，包括《专吃人的鳄鱼：老太平的民间故事》、《魂气归天》、《正月初九天公生》等。
