On 27 August 2025, the final-year students of the Bachelor of Communication (Honours) (Mass Communication) programme from the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Southern University College, successfully organized the Merdeka Joy Patriotic Campaign in conjunction with Malaysia\u2019s 68th Independence Day.<\/p>\n
As part of the Communication and Campaign subject, students were required to design and implement a full-scale strategic communication campaign. This subject is fully assessed through continuous assignments and emphasizes hands-on learning. Working collaboratively, the students managed the entire process, from idea generation, planning, production, to final execution, under the guidance of Senior Lecturer Mrs. Lah Wan Yee.<\/p>\n
The campaign featured five thematic zones\u2014Food, Travel, Culture, Game, and Photo Booth\u2014each curated to highlight Malaysia\u2019s patriotic spirit, cultural richness, and unique heritage. The event successfully engaged both internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, media and sponsors, showcasing the students\u2019 ability to collaborate professionally and manage real-world partnerships. Importantly, the campaign also received support from AiFM, which helped to promote the event through public announcements and further extended its reach to a wider audience.<\/p>\n
In his opening speech, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang, President of Southern University College, congratulated the students for their excellent work. He also commended them for producing impactful social media content, which had garnered over 30,000 views within two months, reflecting the campaign\u2019s broad outreach and relevance in today\u2019s digital landscape.<\/p>\n
One of the most memorable highlights of the day was the Teh Tarik performance by the winner of Teh Tarik Malaysia and Southeast Asia, which greatly entertained both invited guests and the wider audience.<\/p>\n
Overall, the Merdeka Joy Patriotic Campaign was a resounding success, bringing together students, staff, and the community to celebrate Malaysia\u2019s 68th Independence Day with creativity, pride, and joy. The campaign not only enriched students\u2019 learning experiences but also created lasting memories of patriotism and unity within the Southern University College community.<\/p>\n
