✨ Where Culture Meets Technology: Industrial Design Students Reimagine Old Street Stories through 3D Printing
The Bachelor in Industrial Design (Honours) programme under the Faculty of Arts and Design collaborated with Positive Yield to strengthen the connection between design education and industry practice. This collaboration also served as an implementation of the previously signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), further promoting the integration of academic learning, professional expertise, and digital manufacturing technology. On 13 July, guided by Senior Lecturer Ms Tan Su Huey, the project focused on old street culture, where students explored design inspirations from local heritage and everyday experiences through design presentations, concept sharing, and professional discussions with industry partners. By incorporating 3D printing technology, students developed a series of culturally inspired, innovative, and practically applicable product concepts.
This collaboration provided students with valuable exposure to the real-world product development process, from creative ideation and concept development to manufacturing feasibility evaluation. Through industry engagement, students enhanced their capabilities in product design, structural planning, and digital fabrication, demonstrating how industrial design can transform cultural heritage into contemporary design solutions through the integration of creativity and technology.
艺术与设计学院工业设计系与 Positive Yield 展开产学合作项目,深化学术与产业之间的交流与实践。此次合作落实了双方早前签署的合作备忘录,进一步推动设计教育与产业技术的结合。在高级讲师陈思蕙的带领下,项目以老街文化为主题,学生于7月13日通过设计提案发表、作品展示及与业界专业交流,从地方文化与生活记忆中探索设计灵感,并结合 3D打印技术 发展出一系列具备文化特色、创新性与实际应用潜力的产品概念。
此次合作为学生提供接触真实产业设计流程的机会,从创意发想、概念发展到制造可行性评估,全面提升学生在产品设计、结构规划与数位制造应用方面的能力。通过产学协作,学生学习如何将传统文化元素转化为现代设计成果,展现工业设计连接文化传承与科技创新的无限可能。
