Southern University College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chenbro (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd

United Overseas Bank (UOB) Malaysia, in partnership with Invest Johor and the Johor State Government, will host the “JS-SEZ Strategic Forum 2026” on April 20, 2026, at the Sheraton Hotel in Johor Bahru. The forum, themed “From Ambition to Impact: Opening the Next Chapter,” will bring together political and business leaders and industry elites to discuss the development blueprint and implementation path of the Johor-Singapore Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz will officiate at the opening ceremony. This forum marks a substantial step forward in the collaborative efforts of government, banks, and academia to promote the JS-SEZ (Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone) through capital inflows, platform building, and talent investment, the “ambition” of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone will be transformed into quantifiable “impact.”
The forum also witnessed several milestones in industry-academia collaboration. Southern University College’s Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chenbro (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Taiwan-based Chenbro Micom Co., Ltd), marking a new milestone in their collaboration in industry-academia partnerships, talent development, academic activity, and innovation. This is the faculty’s second industry-academia agreement in 2026, following partnerships with OneSystems Technologies Pte Ltd, demonstrating its commitment to expanding its international network and injecting new momentum into regional talent development and innovation.
Mr. Mok Chek Hou, Chairman of the Board of Governor of Southern University College, Prof. ChM. Dr. Leong Loong Kong, Acting President cum Academic Vice President, Senior Lecturer Mr. Chan Bun Seng, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, and Assistant Professor Dr. Irene Kong Cheh Lin attended the forum, showcasing the positive role of higher education institutions in regional talent development and innovation.
