Modernized Chinese Medicine Processing and Management Workflows with Clinical Insights

Faculty of Chinese Medicine, Southern University College held a workshop titled “Modernized Chinese Medicine Processing and Management Workflows with Clinical Insights” on October 29, 2025 at Classroom C2 TCM building. The workshop was delivered by Yi Shi Yuan, Dr. Song Yek Seng and Ms. Tan Zhi Xin.

Ms. Tan introduced Yi Shi Yuan’s operational model in the research, development, manufacturing, and sales of proprietary Chinese Medicines and health supplements. Upholding the principle of “producing quality medicines with integrity,” she shared the company’s use of low-temperature cell-wall breaking technology to produce ultra-fine herbal powders. This technology enables more effective release of active ingredients, representing a significant breakthrough in the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.

Dr. Song focused on the clinical application of classical formulas, providing an in-depth explanation of the key diagnostic principles and clinical adaptation strategies for formulas containing Chai Hu. He highlighted the clinical applications and diagnostic considerations of formulas such as Xiao Chai Hu Tang and Da Chai Hu Tang. By comparing formulas like Si Ni San, Chai Hu Shu Gan San and Xiao Yao San, he emphasized the importance of distinguishing between deficiency and excess patterns. Additionally, he discussed the flexible application of Chai Hu-based formulas in treating insomnia and emotional disorders. For instance, Chai Hu Jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang combined with Wen Dan Tang is used for anxiety-related insomnia, while Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang combined with Wen Dan Tang is suitable for difficulty falling asleep, frequent dreaming, and easy awakening. During the lecture, he particularly highlighted how Chai Hu dosage influences therapeutic effects: 6–10 grams for liver qi regulation and depression relief, 3–6 grams for lifting yang and raising collapsed qi, and 15–30 grams for fever reduction. Dr. Song further illustrated modern epidemic-fighting formulas like Lian Hua Qing Wen Jiao Nang and Qing Fei Pai Du Tang. These are compound adaptations of classical formulas, Yin Qiao San, Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang, Xiao Chai Hu Tang which demonstrate the wisdom of “adapting ancient formulas for contemporary use.”

At the end of the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lim Juat Hong, Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Medicine presented Certificates of Appreciation to Dr. Song Yek Seng, Mr. Kenny Liew Kin Yak, Ms. Tan Zhi Xin. In turn, representatives from Yi Shi Yuan presented commemorative gifts to the faculty. The lecture proved substantive, balancing theory with practical application, deepening faculty and students’ understanding of modern Chinese Medicine techniques and the clinical application of classical formulas.

2025年10月29日, 南方大学学院中医药学院于中医楼C2教室举办了由憶思源主讲的《现代化中药处理和管理流程与临床分享》讲座。主讲嘉宾为憶思源陈芷欣经理与宋益陞博士。

陈芷欣经理介绍了憶思源在中成药与保健品研发、制造及销售方面的运作模式，秉持着“用良心制良药”的宗旨，并分享了采用低温破壁技术制成中药超细粉，此技术能更有效释放药效成分，是中药现代化的重要突破。

宋益陞博士以经典方剂的临床运用为主题，深入讲解柴胡类方剂的辨证要点与临床加减思路。他指出了小柴胡汤、大柴胡汤等方在临床中的应用与辨证要点，并通过对比四逆散、柴胡疏肝散、逍遥散等方，说明虚实辨证的重要性。此外，他还讲述了柴胡类方在治疗失眠与情志病证中的灵活运用，如柴胡加龙骨牡蛎汤合温胆汤用于焦虑失眠，柴胡桂枝汤合温胆汤适用于入睡困难、多梦易醒。讲座中，他特别提到柴胡剂量对药效方向的影响如疏肝解郁用6–10克，升阳举陷用3–6克，退热则需15–30克。宋博士还以连花清瘟胶囊和清肺排毒汤为例，说明现代抗疫方剂如何在银翘散、麻杏石甘汤、小柴胡汤等经典方基础上复方化裁，展现“古方今用”的中医智慧。

活动尾声，中医药学院院长林悦鸿副教授为陈芷欣经理、宋益陞博士及刘晋役经理颁发感谢状，并由憶思源代表向学院赠送纪念品。整场讲座内容充实、理论与实践并重，让师生们对中药现代化技术及经典方剂的临床运用有了更深入的认识。
