Faculty of Art and Design Joins Festival Budaya Malaysia 2025

The Faculty of Art and Design, Southern University College, was honoured to be invited to participate in the Festival Budaya Malaysia, jointly organized by the Long Tian Martial Arts Dragon & Lion Dance Association and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), in conjunction with the Johor Tourism Year 2026 Launch. The festival was successfully held from 12 to 14 December 2025 at Dataran Bandaraya, Johor Bahru.

As part of the event, the Chinese cultural zone titled “Harmony in Dragon Rhythms”, a dedicated Chinese Cultural Heritage Area, appointed the Faculty of Art and Design, Southern University College, as the overall visual planning and design partner. The project was led by Senior Lecturer Mr. Yew Leong Fei, who guided a professional student team comprising Ling Wei Zhi and Teh Wen Ying. Within a tight timeframe of less than one month, the team successfully completed more than twenty design and execution tasks, including the development of the key visual, promotional materials, exhibition space planning, venue beautification, cultural creative zones, event costumes, and related production items. This project clearly demonstrated the faculty’s strong capabilities in professional design planning and practical execution for large-scale cultural events.

On the opening day, Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Teo Pei Kian, Dean, and Ms. Ong Ei Lin, Deputy Dean, were also present at the opening ceremony, witnessing firsthand the faculty’s significant achievements and social impact through cross-disciplinary cultural collaboration.

The project received high recognition from the organizers and relevant government agencies, underscoring the Faculty of Art and Design’s comprehensive strengths in professional education, practice-oriented learning, and community engagement. This accomplishment represents not only an honor but also a responsibility and aspiration. Moving forward, the faculty remains committed to responding to societal needs through design, connecting cultures through creativity, and nurturing future design professionals equipped with both international perspectives and strong industry-ready competencies.

本次活动中，华人区域「龙韵共融」华族文化遗产区，特邀南方大学学院艺术与设计学院担任整体视觉策划与设计单位。项目由高级讲师游亮辉带领学生凌𬀩智与戴妏莹组成专业团队，在不足一个月的紧凑时程内，完成逾二十项设计与执行任务，涵盖主视觉设计、宣传物料、展览空间规划、场地美化、文创展区设计、活动服装以及相关制作物，充分展现学院在大型文化活动中的专业策划与实务执行能力。

活动开幕当天，院长赵佩娟助理教授与副院长王依琳亦亲临现场开幕典礼，共同见证艺术与设计学院在跨界文化合作中的重要成果与社会影响力。

此次项目成果获得主办单位及相关政府部门的高度肯定，充分彰显南方大学学院艺术与设计学院在专业教学、实践导向与社会参与方面的综合实力。这不仅是一项荣誉，更是一份使命与期许。未来，艺术与设计学院将持续以设计回应社会、以创意连接文化，致力培育兼具国际视野与业界实战能力的设计人才。
